Fiction Writing: The Fang of The Void Series
Selections
The Fang of the Void is about a striving cynosure, a woman that wants to stand tall and manifest a great purpose for an almost spiritual vanity. A quality many great achievers and many great fools have alike. We will see where that gets her. But maybe the first descriptor is what the book is really about: striving. It is also about the great sorrows and trials and extreme joys that come with the discovery of purpose. But firstly its about some badass heroes taking on a task of epic proportions, and where it all leads could really unfuck or fuck up the whole word.
Take a look into the world of Niadwe with selections from the first book of the series.
Thoughts on fiction and why I write it
Was it not those grand tales we were told as youths that gave us estimation of the world? Is it not the grand tales we tell ourselves now that give us estimation of our worth?
Before my father read me The Lord of the Rings I was a boy who did not know to measure himself to steadfastness of heart of Aragorn, the world-saving suffering of Frodo, or the stubborn and useful affability of Merry and Pipin. I grew larger for the good of it. The world they inhabited was rich with context, their struggle one that spoke to the archetypal truths of being human. My world grew larger too.
Also... the battles were awesome.
Since then I have explored a thousand other worlds and created a thousand stories within my own life in this one. The power of fantasy, the acknowledgement of an unreal premise constructed to produce great happenings, is singularly unique in that it mirrors best the way we compose our lives within our minds. Each of us is a hero who is failing or striving or winning our story. It's a brutal tale, but if we can find the purpose of our souls, we have a chance for greatness.
Part of my purpose is to write, and being that I very much like fantasy, that is just what I have done.
